Please note that all of the options below (other than “Remote employee salary”), are contractor rates, though you should still remain informed on the minimum standards for Australian employees, which include:

• the current minimum wage
• casual loading, which increases the minimum wage for Australians employed on a casual basis
• the Super Guarantee that employers are required to pay Australian employees on top of wages and casual loading.
• employee entitlements

Contractor rates are generally higher than employee rates, because the VA or OBM will be covering all of their overheads such as annual/sick leave, breaks (you only pay for time worked or agreed outcomes), insurance, equipment, phone line and internet costs.

When you keep these hidden employee costs in mind, VA and OBM contractors are usually a more cost-effective and flexible option, compared to an in-house employee, regardless of the difference in hourly rates.

Also consider that experienced and efficient VAs who charge higher rates than others may take less time to complete a task AND require less of your time (your time is money too!).
